Certified Biodynamic® by Demeter USA
King Estate has 1,033 Biodynamic®-certified acres in southwest Eugene at the southern tip of the Willamette Valley AVA. A working farm, King Estate has 465 acres under vine: 143 of Pinot Noir, 314 of Pinot Gris, and the balance in other grapes. Another 26 acres feature orchards, gardens, lavender and bee hives. The estate has been certified organic since 2002 and was certified by Demeter USA as Biodynamic in 2016, making King Estate the largest Biodynamic vineyard in the U.S. (Biodynamic farms operate as holistic, self-sustaining ecosystems.)
A 70-acre site located 30 miles north of King Estate in the Willamette Valley AVA, Pfeiffer was our first contracted vineyard in 1992. Planted in Bellpine and Dupee soils rich in silty clay and silt loam, the vineyard’s 28 acres of Pinot Gris and 42 acres of Pinot Noir sit on a southward-facing slope and are privileged to long sun exposure during the summer months. Pfeiffer is considered a warm site for Oregon. The vineyard was planted by the Pfeiffer family in the early 80’s.
The Bradshaw family established their vineyard in i 989 with a steadfast pursuit of growing Pinot Noir of the highest quality possible. Their relationship with King Estate goes back to our early days and grows stronger each year. The vines for their foundation block were originally sourced from the King Estate nursery. Bradshaw Vineyard is comprised of 6 clones planted on a variety of rootstock and sits on Bellpine soil at approximately 400 feet in elevation.
Nicholas Vineyard has 33 acres planted near Newberg, Oregon between 350 and 650 feet in elevation. Uncommon for the area, its soils are primarily Laure/wood, consisting of windblown loess over a well-drained, volcanic foundation. Praised for their reliable high quality fruit, Nicholas Vineyard consistently harmonizes fresh fruit flavors like ripened plum and dark cherry with a core of bright acidity and lush, lingering tannins.
Located west of Salem, Oregon, near Monmouth, Croft Vineyard has been a King Estate partnering vineyard since 1992. These southeast facing slopes sit at 400 feet in elevation on a bed of Bellpine soils. Pinot Noir from Croft Vineyard consistently boasts a bouquet of blueberry and strawberry aromas, framed by a rich mouthfeel, and soft, chewy tannins .
